Schmidt & Orr Selected for Atlantic Hockey Monthly Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – Two Bentley University hockey players, junior forward Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) and defenseman Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba/Portage) were selected for Atlantic Hockey monthly awards, the conference announced on Thursday. Schmidt was named Player of the Month, and Orr the Rookie of the Month.

Both players helped Bentley to a 5-2-1 record in January, which saw the team rise to 6th in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 20 points, just three outside the top-five. Schmidt had 13 points on nine goals and four assists, and Orr had 12 points, with 11 of those being assists.

Schmidt's 13 points in January was tied for 2nd most among any player nationally. He was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week in consecutive weeks (Jan. 17 & 24); he had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in the series at Niagara, and four goals in the series with Sacred Heart. Schmidt then ended the month in a big way, with two goals in the 6-3 win over RIT on Jan. 28, which helped Bentley finish a series sweep.

Orr has been racking up the assists, with 11 in the last seven games. He started the month with the clinching goal in Bentley's Frozen Fenway win over Army on Jan. 5, and followed that with three assists in the 5-5 comeback tie the next night, which saw him named Defensive Player of the Week. Orr was again named Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after he had four assists in the Falcons' sweep of RIT.

With 16 goals and 26 points thus far, Schmidt is tied for the conference lead in goals and is T-4th in points. Orr has the 8th most points among defensemen in the conference, with 14.
