Schmidt Tabbed Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Atlantic Hockey announced on Tuesday that Bentley University junior Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) has been named the conference's Player of the Week. Schmidt had two goals and two assists in the Falcons' series at Niagara last weekend.

Schmidt was Bentley's leading scorer in the Niagara series with four points, with two goals and one assist coming in the team's 6-3 win over the Purple Eagles on Jan. 13. The right winger also led the team in shots on goal for the weekend (12), and +/- at +4.

Both of Schmidt's goals in Friday's win came in the 3rd period to help Bentley secure the victory. He scored with 6:12 left to give the Falcons a 4-2 lead, then iced the game with an empty-net goal with 1:31 left to make it 6-3. He also had an assist on defenseman Connor Brassard's (Fitchburg, Mass./Jersey Hitmen) goal in the 2nd period.

On Saturday, Schmidt had an assist and led the team with 10 shots.

Coming into this weekend's games vs. Sacred Heart, Schmidt has a five-game scoring streak going, where he has recorded four goals and three assists. He leads the team in goals, with 10, and is second in points with 19.

It's the first time in his career he's been named Player of the Week, and the first Bentley player this season to earn the award.

Schmidt and the Falcons are back on the ice Friday night at Sacred Heart for an 8:30 face-off and televised on NESN Plus.
