Bentley Gets Back on the Ice Tuesday Night at AIC

The Matchup: After a weekend off, the Bentley University hockey team is back on the ice Tuesday night to open a midweek series at American International. The second game of the series is Thursday night. Both games begin at 7:05, and take place at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.

The Falcons were last in action the weekend of Oct. 28, and suffered a pair of defeats to RIT at the JAR by scores of 4-1 and 6-3. These two games will be the only meetings of the season between Bentley and AIC.

The Yellow Jackets have a quick turnaround after a home-and-away series against Holy Cross that was on Thursday-Friday. AIC won the first game at home 4-2, before battling to a 4-4 tie with the Crusaders on the road Friday night.

Series Notes:

  • This will be Bentley's first games at the Mass Mutual Center, which AIC announced as its new home back in September.
  • Senior Max French has huge career numbers against the Yellow Jackets. He has 18 points, 8 goals and 10 assists, in just 8 career games. His career high of 5 points (1g, 4a) came in a 5-2 win over AIC on Dec. 14, 2014. French also had 4 points (2g, 2a) in a 6-1 win at the JAR last season.
  • Bentley leads the all-time series 29-21-9. They have an 8 game unbeaten streak going in the series at 5-0-3. Bentley though has tied its last three games played in Springfield, including both games last season, which ended in 5-5 and 2-2 ties.
  • The teams also played twice at the JAR last season, in two very different games. Bentley won the first game 1-0 on Dec. 1, as Andrew Gladiuk scored the only goal just 3:07 into the 1st period. The Falcons then cruised to a 6-1 victory on Jan. 22. Gladiuk had a hat trick, to go along with two goals by French.

McDonald Adds to Shorthanded Tally: Junior Andrew McDonald scored a shorthanded goal last Saturday against RIT. That was Bentley's 5th of the season already, all scored by different players. That's tied for the most nationally, with Boston University.

Statistical Leaders: Through 7 games, French leads the team with 8 points, and also leads the squad with 6 assists. Defenseman Alexey Solovyev leads the squad with 4 goals, after he began the season with a goal in four straight games. A pair of freshmen, Jonathan Desbiens and Jake Kauppila are both 2nd on the team with 5 points. Desbiens has 3 goals and 2 assists, and Kauppila 1 goal and 4 assists.

Up Next: Bentley will again have the weekend off after this midweek series. They return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 18 at the JAR to open a weekend series with Mercyhurst. It will be the only series of the season between the two teams.
