WATERTOWN, Mass. – Junior Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) scored twice, including the game-winner at 7:40 of the third period, as Bentley defeated Army 3-2 Friday at Ryan Arena in the first game of an Atlantic Hockey series.

Freshman goalie Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) made 23 saves in his debut to earn the win, including a huge glove save on Tyler Pham with 19 seconds left in the game as Army had an extra-attacker on the ice and its net empty.

Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove) helped the cause with one goal and one assist. He scored the opening goal of the game, and setup Gladiuk's game-winner. Defenseman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon) had two assists.

Army got the better of the shot total in the first period, outshooting the Falcons 14-9. But Argue kept the puck out on all 14 Black Knight shots in his first action of the season.

It was Bentley that got on the board first as Switzer fired in his third goal of the season on what was the team's first shot of the night at 3:47. Taking a pass from Weinstein, Switzer scored from outside the left face-off circle and along the boards to make it 1-0 for the Falcons.

After Army took an interference penalty at 17:11 of the opening period, it took Bentley's top-ranked power play just 31 seconds to strike yet again, with Gladiuk getting his 10^th of the season overall and fourth on the power play. A shot by right winger Michael Reardon (Norwood, Mass./South Shore Kings) was saved by Army goalie Cole Bruns and created a rebound that Gladiuk deposited into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead, and that's how the first period ended.

Army got the only goal of the second period at 8:24, despite being outshot 9-6 by Bentley. Argue saved an initial shot by forward Shane Hearn, but winger Joe Llaurado crashed the net for the rebound and collided into Argue in the process as the puck slid over the line for the goal. After a video review by the officials the goal was upheld.

The Black Knights tied it up at 2:08 of the third on a goal by defenseman Christian Pomarico. Pomarico took a shot from the point that got through traffic in front of the net. Argue made a pad save, but the puck squirted through before he could cover it up to make it a 2-2 game.

But Bentley took the lead back at 7:40 as Gladiuk scored for the second time after Switzer found him in front of the net for a backhander past Bruns.

As Army searched for the tying goal in the final moments, Bentley kept the puck in its offensive zone which didn't allow Army to pull Bruns in favor of the extra-attacker until the final 53 seconds. On a rush down the ice, Pham got a clean look on goal with a wrist shot, but Argue snatched it out of the air with his glove. Ryan McMurphy (Broken Arrow, Okla./Tri-City) then won the face-off in Army's zone with three seconds left as the Falcons secured the win.

Bentley improves to 6-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey with the victory, while the Black Knights drop to 3-10-2 and 3-8-2. The series finale between these two teams in tomorrow at 5:05.
