Koudys Scores Twice as Bentley Sweeps AIC 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) scored twice as Bentley grinded out a 3-2 win at AIC Saturday night to complete the sweep, and move into a tie for fourth-place with Niagara with four games left.

The line of Koudys, Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) and Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) did the damage as they accounted for all three goals. Koudys scored in the first and second periods, and Rickord scored his second of the series in the first period.

Koudys opened the scoring just 2:45 into the first period as Bentley took advantage of an AIC turnover in its own zone. The puck found its way to Koudys on the far post and he beat goalie Ben Meisner up top to give the Falcons an early lead.

The Falcons then extended their lead to 2-0, and it looked like the rout would be on as Rickord netted his sixth of the year with Koudys assisting at 6:33.

But as they showed all night, AIC proved resilient and answered back just 47 seconds later on Steve Mele's goal.

That would be the last goal for a while as the team's battled into the second period with Bentley still leading 2-1. Koudys, however, gave the visitors some breathing room with his second of the game at 13:24 with Rickord and Kubiak assisting.

AIC then made it interesting early in the third period as Adam Pleskach netted his 12th of the year at 4:25. The Yellow Jackets arguably got the better of the period as they had some quality scoring chances, but they were either denied by goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) or missed the net.

Meisner was pulled with 34 seconds left after Mele won a big face-off in their own zone and AIC cleared the puck. Chris Markiewicz had a shot that hit the post, but Bentley was able to prevent the tying goal as they hung on for the win and sweep.

The victory is Bentley's third in four games to improve to 11-12-7 overall and 11-6-6 in Atlantic Hockey. They have taken nine points out of 12 in the last three series.

The Falcons will next take on UConn in a home-and-home on the penultimate weekend of the regular season. Game one will take place in Storrs, Conn., on Friday night.
