Bentley Too Much for Army in 6-2 Victory

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bentley University got back in the win column Friday night with an impressive 6-2 road win against Army in the first game of a home-and-home Atlantic Hockey series at Tate Rink.

The Falcons, who improve to 8-5-5 in Atlantic Hockey, win at Tate Rink for the second time this season and fourth time in the last five. Army falls to 1-13-5 in the conference.

Freshman Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) had two goals for Bentley, giving him six in the last six games and seven in the last eight. Sophomore Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) had a goal and three assists and sophomore Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) had three assists.

Bentley trailed 1-0 after the first period after Army's Bill Day scored at 7:00, but took control of the game in the second period with three goals.

Grieve netted his first of the game and knotted the score at one just 1:22 into the period. He intercepted a pass in Bentley's offensive zone, skated in and beat goalie Ryan Leets for his ninth goal of the campaign.

The Falcons then took the lead at 12:38 as junior Joe Campanelli (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Westminster Prep) and Rickord combined for a beautiful goal. Campanelli won possession of the puck in Army's zone and skated down the right wing into Bentley's zone, and hit a cutting Rickord in stride in front of the net, who flipped the puck past Leets for his fourth goal of the year.

Less than two minutes later freshman Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) made it 3-1, knocking a loose puck in front of the net past Leets on his glove side.

Freshman Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) tacked on another goal at 6:14 of the third period to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead. Gensler had the puck along the far side boards and found Switzer open in the left face-off circle, who beat Leets top shelf.

Grieve scored for a second time at 12:02 to make it 5-1. After Josh Richards got one back for the Black Knights a little over two minutes later, junior Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) potted his fourth of the season at 15:00 to finish the scoring.

Sophomore Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) made 25 saves to earn his eighth win of the year.

The series shifts to Watertown Saturday night for a 7:05 p.m. start at Ryan Skating Arena.
