Komm Strong Again As Falcons Top AIC 4-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) turned in another strong performance and four different players scored as Bentley defeated AIC 4-1 Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey matchup.

Komm turned away AIC's first 31 shots and had a shutout going deep into the third period until they finally got on the scoreboard with under five minutes to play, and Bentley already leading 3-0. The win is his third of the season.

After the first period ended in a scoreless tie, Bentley lit the lamp twice in the second period and once in the third before adding an empty-net goal late.

Freshman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) got the first one for the Falcons 4:44 into the second period. A centering pass by senior Ryan Kayfes (Maple Grove, Minn./Fairbanks Ice Dogs) from the left wing to Weinstein on the right post got AIC goalie Ben Meisner out of position, and Weinstein slammed it into the back of the net for his first career goal.

At 15:13 of the second period Trent Bonnett (Butler, Pa./Mahoning Valley Phantoms) made it 2-0 with a slap shot from the blue line.

Komm meanwhile kept the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard with several spectacular saves.

Junior Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) made it 3-0 for Bentley at 7:22 of the third period by beating Meisner with a wrist shot in the slot.

AIC finally solved Komm with 4:22 left as Jon Puskar sent a shot through traffic that found its way into the upper left corner of the net.

Freshman Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) finished the scoring with the empty-netter. Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) had an assist on the goal to extend his scoring streak to seven games.

The Falcons improve to 3-1 in Atlantic Hockey with the win and 3-6-1 overall, while AIC falls to 2-8 and 2-3. Bentley is back at it Saturday night when they play Army in West Point, N.Y.
