Komm, Hartung Lead Bentley To 2-0 Victory Over Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) posted his first career shutout and junior Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) scored twice as Bentley University won at Canisius 2-0 Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action.

Komm, playing close to his hometown of Williamsville, N.Y., made 24 saves for the shutout, the first for Bentley since Jan. 30, 2009 against Army. They improve to 2-0 in Atlantic Hockey play and 2-5-1 overall, while Canisius drops to 1-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Bentley's penalty kill units played a huge part in the win as they went 8-8, including killing off two Golden Griffin power plays in the final six minutes and one with 2:53 remaining

Hartung's goal at 12:40 of the second period was all the support Komm needed. The goal came right off a face-off win, as Hartung tipped in a shot in front of the net from sophomore Zach Marginsky (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Stars).

With under four minutes to go in the game, Komm preserved the shutout by robbing Canisius' Kyle Gibbons with a great save, as he slid from the right post across the crease to deny Gibbons' shot on the left post.

After Bentley's final penalty expired with 53 seconds to go in the game, Canisius goalie Dan Morrison headed for the bench, and Hartung scored on the empty net from the neutral zone to secure the win.

The Falcons will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
