Koudys, Switzer Each Score Two Each As Bentley Skates Past Sacred Heart 7-3

MILFORD, Conn. – Junior Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington) and freshman Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) each scored two goals, and freshman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) had four assists, as Bentley University picked up its first win of the season, 7-3 over Sacred Heart Tuesday night in the Atlantic Hockey opener for both teams.

Bentley fell behind 1-0 on a goal by Ben Ketchum at 11:23, but just 30 seconds later sophomore Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) tied it up. With a little over two minutes left in the period, junior Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) put the Falcons in front for the rest of the night with a power play goal.

Koudys made it 3-1 just past the midway point of the second period with a nifty goal, knocking a loose puck to himself in the neutral zone, skating in on net all alone and beating goalie Andrew Bodnarchuk to the glove side for his first of the year.

Switzer got in on the act with his first career goal at 14:26 after a turnover on the Sacred Heart blue line, allowing him to skate untouched the length of the ice and beat Bodnarchuk with a shot to his stick side.

Sacred Heart got to within 4-2 on a power play goal from Brain Sheehan at 18:06, but Bentley was fast to respond as Switzer scored again just 23 seconds later off a face-off win from Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors), and quick passes from Weinstein and Gensler to Switzer on the goal line. That spelled the end of Bodnarchuk's night and he was replaced by sophomore Chris Paliafito.

Koudys put in his second of the night at 6:02 of the third period to make the score 6-2, and after Sheehan scored again to make it 6-3, Grieve netted his team-leading third of the year at 17:14 to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) made 20 saves to pick up the win for Bentley.

The Falcons, now 1-4, win their Atlantic Hockey opener for the third straight year. The seven goals is the most they've scored in a game since an 8-3 win over Canisius on Jan. 9, 2009. The Pioneers fall to 0-5.

Next, Bentley will host Clarkson on Friday in its home-opener and the first game of a weekend series.
