Desjardins Continues Strong Spring During Regional Preview

WHEELING, W.V. – Bentley University junior Evan Desjardins (Salem, N.H./Salem HS) continued his strong play this spring with a three-over 74 Monday during the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Preview on the Oglebay Resort's Jones Course.

The course will be the site of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East SuperRegional next month.

Desjardins, who has a 74 stroke average during five rounds this spring, birdied the second and seventh holes and finished in a tie for 15th in a 130-player field. Among golfers from the East Region, he was tied for second, one stroke back of Tanner Little (St. Thomas Aquinas).

Bentley's second and third golfers were junior Bennett Berg (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and senior Timothy Picard (Dracut, Mass./Lowell Catholic HS). Berg posted a 79, good for a tie for 66th, and Picard recorded an 80, the first time in 18 rounds this season his score hasn't been in the 70's. He finished the day tied for 75th.

As a team, Bentley is 16th among 26 entrants and fifth among the nine East Region programs in the field.

The leader at the midpoint is Glenville State's Benjamin Fernandez, with a four-under 67. Four golfers finished at even par, including two from Gannon University, Shaunak Rama and Giovanni DeLorenzi.

Gannon, with a team score of 291, will begin Tuesday's action with a six-stroke lead over Livingstone and Charleston.
