Walter Leads Bentley During Day 1 of NCAA Regional

VICTOR, N.Y. – Junior Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) led the Bentley University golf team during day one of the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional at the Ravenwood Gold Club Thursday.

Walter shot an even par and finished the day tied for 11th place in a field of 104. He birdied three holes, including the par-five sixth and the par-four seventh back-to-back.

As a team, Bentley is even with Mercyhurst University in the standings, both tied for 17th in the 20-team field with a 307. The Falcons are seven strokes out of tenth and 12 out of the top four, which is how many advance to the NCAA Division II Championships.

The Falcons had most of their success on the par-threes, playing those at a plus-five.

Next on the score list for Bentley was junior Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS). He is tied for 54th after turning in a four-over 54. Sophomore Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) also broke 80 with his 79 putting him in a tie for 82nd.

In the team standings, St. Thomas Aquinas College leads Charleston by six strokes, 286-292. On top of the individual leaderboard is Post University's Jace Carlisle with a three-under 69. He'll begin Friday's action with a one-stroke lead over West Chester's Fassnacht Brock, Southern New Hampshire's AJ Cavotta, STAC's Nolan Skaggs and American International's Li Su.

Bentley will tee off Friday between 10:50 and 11:30 am.
