Ethier & Bentley In the Hunt Following Day 2 of NCAA East/Atlantic Regional

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Senior co-captain Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) and the Bentley University golf team turned in strong performances during Friday's second day of the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional and will be in contention to qualify for the NCAA Championships during Saturday's final round.

Ethier shot a three-over 75 during the second round and will be in a tie for second at 75-74-149 when play resumes on Saturday. He's even with Gannon University's Ethan Bennett and one back of Millersville University's Brady Erb.

As a team, Bentley posted a 307, tying for third best among second-round scores, and finished the day in sixth place with a 312-307-619. Coach Mickey Herron's team is only three strokes out of the top four and four out of the top three.

Finishing in the top four is important as that is now many qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held next week in Florida. And the top individual not on one of those four teams will also advance.

Bentley's number two man, thus far in the tournament, is junior Ryan Daly (Beverly, Mass./ Beverly HS). He matched Ethier's second-round 75 and is tied for 29th with a 156.

Graduate student and co-captain Ellis Yoder (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS) shot a 78 Friday and is tied for 39th with a 158.

The top two in the team standings are St. Thomas Aquinas, with a 603, and Gannon, at 605.

Saturday's action is scheduled to get underway at 9 am with Bentley teeing off from 9:50-10:30 am.
