Ethier Leads Bentley to 6th-Place in Weather-Shortened Trojan

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Led by sophomore Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS), the Bentley University golf team finished sixth among 13 teams in the weather-shortened Trojan at the Walnut Creek Country Club. Tuesday's scheduled final round was cancelled due to expected inclement weather.

Thirty-six holes were played on Monday in less than ideal conditions (low temperatures, strong winds) with Bentley turning in a 318-310-628. The Falcons were five strokes out of the top three, and Newberry College edged out the host team, Mount Olive, 588-598, for team honors.

Ethier tied for third place after answering his opening round 76 with a one-over 71 during the second round. He finished four strokes back of tournament medalist Ben Thompson of Newberry, who posted a 75-68-143 and two behind runner-up Patrick Schweitz of Mount Olive (75-70-145).

It's a course where Ethier has done well in his career. Last year as a freshman, he tied for fifth in the same tournament with a 77-68-75. That also helped coach Mickey Herron's squad finish in sixth place.

Bentley also received a strong effort from senior Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS), who tied for 14th with a 77-76-153.

The next action for the Falcons is the University of Rochester Fred Kravetz Invitational in Pittsford, N.Y. April 12-13.
