Led by Kulikowski, Bentley Finishes 5th in Bob Writz Invitational

DENVER, Colo. – Led by sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sunderland HS), the Bentley University golf team finished fifth among ten teams in the Bob Writz Invitational, which concluded Sunday at the Bear Creek Golf Club.

Bentley, which began day two action tied for seventh, turned in a second-round 314 to move ahead of Midland (Texas), Dominican (N.Y.) and Nebraska-Kearney in the results. The Falcons finished with a 640 and trailed fourth-place Colorado School of Mines, the host team, by 15 strokes.

Kulikowski tied for seventh in a field of 63 as he finished with a 74-78-152. He was tied for the most birdies in the tournament with eight (four each day) and his 4.15 average on par 4 holes ranked second.

Kulikowski achieved birdies on Sunday on the 414-yard fifth hole, the 541-yard 14th, the 434-yard 15th and the 200-yard 17th.

Junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) has Bentley's best day-two score, a three-over 75, an improvement of eight strokes from Saturday. For the tournament, he tied for 19th with an 83-75-158.

Sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) also played well for Bentley on Sunday, shooting a 78 to tie for 28th overall (83-78-161).

Victor Bjorlow of Colorado University earned medalist honors with his 76-71-147 besting teammate Ryan Schmitz (72-76-148) by one. Colorado State-Pueblo collected team honors by two strikes over Colorado Christian, 614-616.

Bentley's next action is the Division II Preview in Alabama Mar. 27-28.
