Perkins Named Bentley Golf Captain

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior John Perkins (Middleton/Phillips Andover Academy) has been named captain of the 2016-17 Bentley University golf team, head coach Mickey Herron announced.

Perkins, the team's only senior, has amassed an 81.3 stroke average during his first three seasons while playing a total of 16 rounds. He'll be in the lineup this weekend when the Falcons open the new season by competing in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Tournament at the Hop Meadow Country Club in Simsbury, Connecticut. Bentley, an NCAA Division II qualifier each of the last six years, will be the only non-Division I team in the Central Connecticut State-hosted tournament.

Perkins, who was the captain at Phillips Andover as a senior, has excelled in the classroom as an economics-finance major. He's made the President's List every semester while amassing a 3.95 grade point average, and has been elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

Bentley's lineup this weekend also includes juniors Brett Chatfield (Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) and Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), along with sophomores Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS) and Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS). All four had sub-80 stroke averages last season, and both Chatfield and Meyers have earned All-Northeast-10 honors previously.

After this weekend, Bentley will have one more test before the Northeast-10 Championships Oct. 2-3, the Southern New Hampshire Queechee Classic Sept. 19-20.
