Bentley Opens Season with 5th Place Finish in Le Moyne Fall Preview

BALDWINVILLE, N.Y. – Led by seniors Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) and Matt Freitag (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac Valley HS), the Bentley University golf team concluded the season-opening Le Moyne Fall Preview in fifth place Saturday at the Timber Banks Golf Course. A total of 16 teams participated.

Bentley, with a team score of 641, finished 15 strokes back of co-champions Southern New Hampshire University and Le Moyne College. Post University was third, two off the pace, and Mercyhurst University claimed fourth with a 630.

Oliver was the Falcons' top individual finisher as he finished ninth with a 77-78-155. Freitag posted his best round as a collegian, a two-over 74 on Saturday. That elevated him into a tie for 15th at 160.

Oliver had five birdies during the tournament, tying for seventh most, and Freitag's 21 pars during the 36 holes was bettered by only four golfers.

Co-medalists were Mercyhurst's Blaze Hogan and Jose Luis Martinez of Post. Both shot a second-round 73 for a total score of 149.

Bentley's next action is the Dowling September Shootout Friday and Saturday.
