Brunone Sparkles During Day 1 of St. James Plantation Invitational

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – On a day that featured 35 mile-per-hour winds as well as very hard greens, the conditions at the Founders Club didn't both Bentley University freshman Jimmy Brunone (Plymouth, Mass./Tabor Academy).

In the Falcons' first tournament of the spring, Brunone turned in a three-over 75 and reached the midpoint of the St. James Plantation Invitational with a three-stroke lead over a quartet of players, including junior teammate Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy).

In the team standings, Bentley stands third in a field of 13 with a score of 327. The Falcons stand five strokes back of the day one lead, West Chester University, and four behind second-place Indiana University (Pa.). Unfortunately, Bentley was unable to count Brunone's score as he was entered as an independent.

Brunone and Oliver were two of only ten golfers who shot under 80 in the tournament. A total of 87 players are competing in the event.

Next on the score list for Bentley was senior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS), who'll begin the second round Saturday morning in a tie for 15th following an 81. Also for the Falcons, senior Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) and junior Tommy Ayres (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) carded 82's, putting them in a tie for 20th.
