Five Bentley Golfers Earn All-Conference Honors; Meyers & Herron Receive Major Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – All five Bentley University competitors in this past weekend's Northeast-10 Conference Golf Championships returned home with All-Conference awards after leading the Falcons to their second conference championship in four years.

The All-Conference first team included junior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy), senior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury/Duxbury HS) and freshman Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./ Slinger HS) while junior Tommy Ayres (Bolton/Nashoba Reg. HS) and freshman Brett Chatfield (Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) were included on the second team.

Meyers was also recognized as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year and fifth-year Bentley head coach Mickey Herron received his second NE-10 Coach of the Year award after leading the Falcons to their tenth tournament championship during his tenure.

Oliver shot an even-par 70 during the tournament's second round, finishing alone in third place at 77-70-147. He's been in four tournaments thus far this season, compiling a team-best 73.5 stroke average.

Stoddard, a co-captain along with Oliver, and Meyers both tied for fifth place with identical 72-78-150 scores. This fall, Stoddard has a 74.4 stroke average, nearly a full stroke better than his 75.1 of last year. Meyers had played in just one tournament before the conference championships and has a 76.5 stroke average.

Ayres and Chatfield tied for tenth in the conference championships, both with a 36-hole score of 151. Ayres (78-73) has a 74.7 average in three tournaments and Chatfield, who debuted with a victory in the Franklin Pierce Invitational, has shot 73.5 over his first four collegiate rounds.

Herron has directed Bentley to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional during each of his first four years and by winning the conference championships, the Falcons are assured of a fifth consecutive regional appearance next May. During the month of September, his team won two tournaments (the Franklin Pierce Invitational as well as the NE-10's), placed second in another after losing the tie-breaker and fifth of 12 down at the Dowling September Shootout.

Bentley has three tournaments scheduled in October, beginning with the Northeast Challenge in Concord, N.H. this coming weekend and concluding with the New Englands on Cape Cod Oct. 26-27.
