Kirkpatrick Selected as NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence for Golf

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University golf captain Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/ Nashoba Reg. HS) has been selected as the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence recipient for golf, the conference announced today.

This marks the third straight year that Bentley has had the conference's top scholar-athlete in the sport of golf with Kirkpatrick following 2012 and 2013 recipient Matt Michel. He's also the third Falcon to receive a NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award during the 2013-14 academic year, joining Tara Dooley (women's cross country) and Lauren Battista (women's basketball).

"Harry's tenure as captain continues in the lofty traditions set forth by our team's leaders the past five years," said Bentley golf coach Mickey Herron. "His academic and golfing achievements were outstanding but his leadership qualities will emerge as his lasting legacy for our program.

Kirkpatrick excelled in the classroom for Bentley. The corporate finance and accounting major graduated in three-and-a-half years and will receive his Masters in accounting and financial planning in August.  Last week, he was named to the Academic All-Northeast-10 team for the second time in three years.

Kirkpatrick's final collegiate season included a 78.4 stroke average during a team-high 25.5 rounds. There were 14 rounds in the 70s, including a trio of 73's, the final coming during the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional.

Career highlights for Kirkpatrick included second place in the 2011 Northeast-10 Championships and a win in the 2013 Rich Korzec Invitational.

Kirkpatrick wrote his Masters' research paper on "Golf's Sustainable Future" with interviews from dozens of the world's foremost authorities within the golf community. He was recently hired by the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) as a tournament manager.
