Bentley Places 2nd in Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational; Michel Ties for 7th
KEENE, N.H. – Second-day 74s by senior co-captain Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) and freshman Zach Pollard (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon HS) helped the Bentley University golf team place second in the Franklin Pierce Division II Fall Invitational, which concluded Monday at the Bretwood Country Club North Course.
Michel was Bentley's top finisher as he tied for seventh with a 75-74-149. He was one of only five of the top 19 to have a better second round than opening round.
The top 19 included three of Michel's teammates, including senior co-captain Dan McQueen (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS). McQueen, one stroke off the pace after Sunday's action, struggled to an 80 and finished tenth at 150.
Sophomore Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) finished14th with a 74-81-155, and Pollard tied for 15th (82-74-156) in his first tournament as a collegian. Pollard's improvement of eight strokes from the first round to the second was the best among the 43 participating players.
American International claimed the team title by five strokes over the Falcons, with medalist Ramon Ventura the major reason. He fired a four-under 68 Monday for a 36-hole score of 142, good for a one-stroke victory over Franklin Pierce's Ian Landry.
Bentley's next action is the Dowling September Shootout at Long Island National Sept. 21-22.
