Michel Receives NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for Golf

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University rising senior Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award winner for golf, based on his combined excellence on the course and in the classroom.

Michel, previously named to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America men's at-large third team, also was one of three Bentley golfers voted to the five-player Academic All-Northeast-10 team, an honor he received for the second straight year.

Michel was joined on the Academic All-NE-10 golf team by teammates Dan McQueen (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS) and Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS). McQueen, like Michel, will be a senior in the fall, and Kirkpatrick will be entering his junior year. 

A member of the Ping Division II All-East Region team, Michel led the Falcons with a 75.5 stroke average, an improvement of 3.6 strokes over his sophomore year. He was the team's top finisher in five tournaments and earned both All-Northeast-10 and Division II All-New England honors.

Academically, Michel has amassed a grade point average of 3.8 with a dual major, corporate finance and accounting as well liberal studies.

McQueen had an outstanding spring season and finished the year with a 77.0 stroke average. He led the Falcons in three tournaments during the spring, placing seventh in the St. James Plantation, King Memorial and Palamountain invitationals. McQueen, a finance major, also gets it done in the classroom, with his GPA also over 3.8.

Kirkpatrick was Bentley's number two finisher in the NCAA Regional and 47th overall with a 54-hole total of 240. For the season, he posted a 80.8 stroke average over 15 rounds, with a low of 74. Kirkpatrick, as a corporate finance and accounting major, has achieved a GPA over 3.6.

Bentley, which won the NE-10's Team Excellence Award for golf, captured both the Northeast-10 and New England Championships, and participated in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year, and the seventh time in the last 11 years.
