Bentley Places 5th in UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational

DRACUT, Mass. -- The Bentley University golf team finished fifth among 14 teams during the UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational, which concluded Sunday at the Meadow Creek Golf Club. The Falcons had a team score of 654, finishing 30 strokes back of team champion American International College.

Bentley, which played without its number one golfer in terms of stroke average, began the tournament's second day in third place, but struggled to a second-round 331. Senior Terrence Tedeschi (Duxbury/Duxbury HS) had the team's best Sunday score, an 82 after a first-round 90.

For the tournament, the Falcons' number one finisher was junior Richie Powers (Leominster/ Leominster HS) with a 162, good for a tie for 14th. Senior captain Alex Macielak (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS) was next, his 163 placing him in a tie for 17th. Both Powers and Macielak had a second-round 83.

AIC's Nathan Pereira earned medalist honors with a 77-74-151, besting teammate Kevin Daniels by two strokes.

The tournament was the last of the regular season for the Falcons, who hope to receive an NCAA Division II tourney invite next Friday. Bentley was eighth in the most recent NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, and ten teams will be selected.
