Bentley Finishes 5th in Northeast-10 Golf Championships; Rookie of the Year Honors for Clarke

ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Led by juniors Nick Clarke (Plymouth, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) and Richie Powers (Leominster/Leominster HS), the Bentley University Falcons placed fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference Golf Championships, which concluded Monday at the En-Joie Golf Course.

Bentley finished the tournament with a two-day score of 618, following up on Sunday's 310 with a second-round 308. Adelphi University successfully defended its team championship and earned the conference's automatic qualifying spot for the 2011 NCAA Division II Championships.

Clarke, a first-year Falcon who didn't play during his two years at the University of Connecticut, earned NE-10 Rookie of the Year and first-team All-Conference honors by virtue of tying for fifth place. Only two players had a better second-day score than Clarke's one-over 73, and he finished the tournament at 151.

The All-Northeast-10 second team included Powers, who tied for seventh with a 152. He posted a first-round 75 and turned in a 77 for Monday's round.

Also finishing in the top half of the field were sophomore Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) and senior Alex Macielak (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS). Michel tied for 22nd with a 157 (78-79) and Macielak tied for 29th (79-80).

Garrett Beyor (American International) captured medalist honors by winning a one-hole playoff with Kent St. Charles of Pace. Both finished the 36-hole tourney at even-par 144.

Adelphi and AIC both topped the team scoring list at 607, with Adelphi declared champion as a result of a better fifth-man score for the final round. Saint Rose (614) and Le Moyne (616) also finished in front of the Falcons.

Bentley will compete in the Southern New Hampshire Invitational next Sunday and Monday.
