Bentley Visits Saint Rose Saturday with Falcons Seeking 5th Straight Win

WALTHAM, Mass. – It's been an impressive four game stretch for the Bentley University men's basketball team. There have been home wins against second-place Adelphi, Southern New Hampshire and conference-leading St. Michael's, as well as a come-from-behind double-OT win at Assumption.

The Falcons will look to continue the momentum on Saturday when they take on The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. The 3:30 pm contest from the Nolan Gymnasium will be streamed over the NE10 NOW digital network.

Following the 84-65 win over St. Michael's, Bentley enters the final week-and-a-half of the regular season with records of 17-8 overall and 12-6 conference. Coach Jay Lawson's team, 11-3 over the last two months, is tied with Adelphi for second in the NE10, two games back of the Purple Knights with four to play.

Saint Rose, which announced in December that it would be shutting down as an institution following the academic year, is 10-14 overall and 7-11 NE10 in its final season. The Golden Knights have dropped three of their last four, including 79-61 to Saint Anselm on Tuesday.

Bentley, 14-0 when scoring more than 75 points, leads the Northeast-10 in numerous team categories, including offense, three-pointers, three-point percentage, rebounds, rebound margin, assists, fewest fouls, fewest turnovers, assist-turnover ratio and scoring margin.

In Wednesday's victory against St. Michael's, the Falcons outshot the Purple Knights 53-36 percent and kept the visitors to only seven three-pointers in 28 attempts. Five Falcons scored in doubles with sophomore guard Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) and senior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame) both scoring 19.

Laput, who moved past Brian Tracey '11 into 12th on Bentley's all-time scoring list, is the only East Region player producing at least 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists a game.

McClure is having a strong sophomore season, one that has seen him average 13.8 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds. Graduate wing Kellan Bochenek (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont HS), who averages 13.2 points, has dropped in 78 three-pointers, second most in the conference and the most by a Falcon since 2016.

Senior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS), during the winning streak, has averaged 12.5 points and shot 58 percent overall. Off the bench, sophomore forward Joe Carroll (Cedar Grove, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) has put together the best three-game stretch of his career (48 points, 16/27 FG, 5/11 3's).

Saint Rose, which doesn't have a single active player who was with the team a year ago, is led by Robert Morris transfer Tristian Jeffries, a junior guard. He's led the team in scoring in seven of the last 11 games and is averaging 14.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 three-pointers.

Others in doubles for the Golden Knights are Maine transfer Ata Turgut at 12.4 points per game and freshman guard Christian-Pierre Louis at 10.8. Six-ten junior Nuha Sagnia has totaled 44 rebounds in the last four games and is among the conference's top shot blockers (40).

In the first meeting of the season between the two teams, Bentley used 18 three-pointers, including six by Bochenek, to prevail 89-69. Saint Rose shot .500 from deep, but their number of attempts matched the Falcons' makes.

All-time, Bentley leads the series 30-9 with seven consecutive wins.

Before closing out the regular season with home games against Pace and Southern Connecticut, Bentley finish the road schedule Wednesday at Franklin Pierce.
