Bochenek Leads Prolific Bentley Shooting Attack During Win at New Haven

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate wing Kellen Bochenek (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont HS) hit six threes while netting a career-high 23, four teammates also scored in doubles and the Falcons connected at a 70 percent clip in the second half as Bentley University shot past the University of New Haven, 100-74, Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball at the Charger Gymnasium.

Bentley, after hitting the century mark for the fourth time this season, improved to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the conference while completing a season series sweep of the Chargers. New Haven, the reigning NCAA Division II East Region champion, dropped to 6-13 overall and 3-10 NE10.

With all five starters scoring at least five and sophomore forward Joe Carroll (Cedar Grove, N.J./Don Bosco Prep HS) adding four off the bench, Bentley completed the opening half with a 44-31 lead. Senior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) and sophomore Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) each tallied nine and Latham also delivered four assists.

Bentley, after making only one of its first five shots, heated up and shot nearly 58 percent over the final 16 minutes while outscoring the Chargers by 17, 44-25.

Included was a run of ten straight points that made it 28-18. Senior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) buried a straight-on three, Latham and graduate Isaac Martin (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross HS) followed with driving lay-ups and Bochenek capped it with a three-point play the traditional way.

A 10-2 run, bookended by Bochenek three-pointers, extended the Bentley advantage to 17, 61-44 with 14:05 left.

A few minutes later, the Falcons ran off eight straight, including treys from McClure and Bochenek, to make it 71-48 and force a third Charger timeout of the half with 11:41 remaining.

The Falcon lead hit 30 for the first time, 82-52, on a Latham three with 8:45 left, and peaked at 32, 88-56, when Bochenek connected from the left wing with 6:29 left.

Bochenek, the conference leader in three-pointers made and accuracy from downtown, hit six of 11 from deep and bettered his previous best of 20, set in December at Post University.

Also setting a career scoring best was Carroll with 15 in 17:04 off the bench. He made all six of his shots from the field, including a three-pointer, and finished a +26.
