Bentley Buries School Record 23 Triples to Fly Past Felician, 106-71

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three-pointers were flying Tuesday afternoon as the Bentley University Falcons buried a school record 23 to stun Felician University, 106-71, in non-conference men's basketball at the Dana Center's Barbara Stevens Court.

Five different Falcons connected at least three times from downtown as the Falcons halted a two-game slide and shattered the program record of 19, set in 1992 against Southern Connecticut State and matched against Assumption in 1996 and Felician two years ago. The 23 was tied for the second most in Division II this season.

Senior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) and graduate guard Kellan Bochenek (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont HS) each finished with five triples. Laput, 5-of-7 from deep, scored a game-high 20 points and Bochenek, who had 17 points, sank five of six from distance.

Coach Jay Lawson also saw both senior forward Ivan Misic (Toronto, Ont.) and senior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) connect on four three-pointers, both with seven attempts, and graduate forward Isaac Martin (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross HS) came off the bench for three.

With Bentley down 15-13 with just under 13 minutes left on the first-half clock, Martin hit his first, from the right wing, to give the Falcons a lead they would never give up. That was followed by a pair of triples from Laput, one from each wing, and it was 22-15.

The Falcons outscored the visiting Golden Falcons 11-3 over the final four minutes of the half and went into intermission up 16, 50-34. Bochenek and Martin each nailed a three and sophomore guard Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) drained three free throws after being fouled while launching from distance.

Bentley broke the game wide open by scoring 11 unanswered points in the first two-and-a-half minutes of the second half. Laput had eight of the 11 as the differential grew t0 27, 61-34.

The lead hit 35 on a Misic three-ball with 13:47 to play and peaked at 38, 105-67, on a three from freshman guard Dre Roman (Loiza, P.R.).

Joining Laput and Bochenek in double figures were Latham (16 points), Misic (14) and Martin (11).

Laput complemented his 20 with five rebounds and five assists. Bochenek and McClure led the team with seven assists, and McClure also had a team-high eight assists.

Bentley, in addition to shooting .527 overall and an even .500 from three, outrebounded the Golden Falcons 42-27, with 18 at the offensive end, and amassed an amazing 31 assists on 38 buckets. Second chance points were 20-9 as the Falcons had as many offensive boards as Felician had defensive. The 106 points was the team's highest total since the season-opener a year ago.

Felician (6-5) shot .456 overall, made only five of 16 threes and outscored the home team in the paint, 40-28.

Bentley, 6-4, returns to action Saturday afternoon with a non-conference contest at Post University.
