Four Score in Doubles as Bentley Posts Wire-to-Wire Win over CSI

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) and sophomore guard Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) led four double-figure scorers as Bentley University went wire-to-wire for an 84-68 win over the College of Staten Island Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball on the Dana Center's Barbara Stevens Court.

Laput finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists while McClure provided 15 points and nine rebounds as the Falcons improved to 4-2 overall. It was the fourth straight game the second-year player has matched or bettered his career scoring high.

Bentley (4-2) started the game by scoring the first ten points with six of those tallied by McClure. He scored on a drive to make it 4-0, hit one of two free throws and capped the fast start with a top-of-the-key three.

Later in the opening quarter, a run of nine straight extended the Bentley advantage to 14, 26-12. Junior guard Jaden Baker (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico HS) hit a three-pointer, McClure hit a jumper from outside, Laput scored off an inbound and senior forward Ivan Misic (Toronto, Ont.) added an inside basket.

Both McClure and Laput had ten in the half, which ended with Bentley in front by 11, 42-31. Keys included 24 points in the paint and a plus-seven rebound margin, 24-17.

The Falcon advantage slipped into single digits only once in the second half, 49-41 with 15:45 to play. Bentley answered by outscoring the 3-3 Dolphins 15-5 over the next four minutes, pushing the lead to 18, 64-46. McClure scored five and Laput four over that run.

The biggest lead of the night came with 2:46 to play as a Laput steal led to a lay-up from senior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) and an 81-59 lead.

Laput (8-of-13), McClure (5-of-8) and Misic (6-of-7) combined to make 19 of 28 shots overall, helping the Falcons to connect at a .559 clip as a team. Misic and Latham were the other double-figure scorers, each finishing with a dozen.

Senior guard Kellan Bochenek (Kittering, Ohio/Fairmont HS) also had a solid performance with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Freshman guard Aaron Goldstein (Staten Island, N.Y.) carried the offensive load for his hometown team, finishing with 21 points and five rebounds., The Dolphins were held to a season-low point total, 18 below their season average.

Bentley had a 16-7 advantage in assists as well as 50-38 in the paint. Against the Falcon D, the Dolphins shot only .375 overall with six three-pointers in 18 attempts.

Bentley will be back at home Wednesday for a 7:30 pm Northeast-10 game against Saint Anselm College.
