Laput & Webb Combine for 41 as Bentley Extends Home Winning Streak to 16

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) finished with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists, and graduate guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) added 18, as Bentley University defeated Post University, 81-68, in non-conference men's basketball Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which closed the game with a 40-22 run after falling behind by five, improved to 5-1 overall and extended its Dana Center winning streak to 16. Post dropped to 3-3 this season despite scoring 16 of the first 20 second-half points.

With graduate guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) playing a key role, Bentley started fast, building a 14-5 lead after six minutes. Wright-Kinsey had three lay-ups and an assist during the stretch.

The first half lead peaked at 11, 33-22, on a hook shot from graduate forward Matt Leritz (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) with just under three minutes left until the break.

Post, after closing the first half with a 6-2 spurt to draw within seven, erased that difference and went up five with a 16-4 run after play resumed. The Eagles made eight of their nine shots during that span, including four driving lay-ups by graduate guard Isaiah Holmes (Lowell).

Following a timeout, Bentley responded by scoring the game's next 12 points. Laput got it started with two free throws, Leritz scored an inside basket and junior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) put the Falcons back in the lead, 48-46, with a left corner three.

The run continued with a Laput basket and finished with a triple from the left wing by Latham.

With the differential five, Bentley locked up the win with a 15-5 burst that made it 81-66 with under two minutes remaining. Laput, the NE10 scoring leader, scored eight of the 15 with two baskets and four free throws.

Laput finished 8 of 14 from the field and made all six of his free throws. Webb, who complemented his 18 with seven rebounds, also was six of six from the charity stripe. Latham followed with 14 points and Wright-Kinsey's line was a solid 11 points, seven rebounds and five dimes.

Leritz (8 points) was the only starter not to score in doubles, but put together a quality line that included ten rebounds, five blocks, four assists and a team-best plus-20.

Holmes was the top scorer for Post with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

Free throws, where the Falcons were a perfect 20-of-20, and rebounds were instrumental in Bentley's success. They outscored the Eagles by 10 points at the line and were a plus-15 on the boards, 40-25.

Bentley's next game is at home next Saturday against Southern Connecticut State.
