Bentley Uses 38-10 Start to Hand Dominican (N.Y.) its First Loss, 95-58

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was all Bentley University Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center as the Falcons scored 38 of the game's first 48 points and went on to hand Dominican University (N.Y.) its first loss of the season, 95-58, in non-conference men's basketball action. The win was the Falcons' 15th straight at home.

Graduate forward Matt Leritz (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and also collected 13 rebounds, including 11 in the first half, to power the Falcons. Northeast-10 Conference scoring leader Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) also had a strong showing as the junior guard finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Both also handed out three assists.

Bentley, ranked 19th in the D2SIDA media poll, scored the game's first nine points with Leritz, a Division III All-America out of Illinois Wesleyan, scoring the first five with a short jumper and a three-pointer from the left wing.

Not long after, coach Jay Lawson's team extended its lead to 22-5 with a run of ten unanswered. Senior forward Isaac Martin (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross HS) and graduate Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) each connected from deep, junior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) came up with a steal and a lay-up, and Leritz scored a second-chance basket.

Bentley's third major run of the opening 13 minutes, this one of 13 straight points, made it a 38-10 game with 7:44 to play. Lay-ups by Wright-Kinsey started and ended that spurt, which also included a Leritz three-ball.

During the opening half, which ended with the Falcons up 53-25, Bentley shot 63 percent, including 8 of 14 from three-point range. Leritz, who was coming off a 19-rebound performance against Southern New Hampshire, had as many rebounds as the entire Charger team, and Dominican shot only 32 percent.

In the second half, the Bentley lead ranged from 26 to 37 points.

For the game, the Falcons outshot the visitors 56-34 percent, buried 13 of 28 three-pointers, outscored the Chargers 46-26 in the paint and nearly doubled Dominican on the boards, 53-27. Bentley's 12 offensive rebounds resulted in 16 second-chance points.

Bentley's third double-figure scorer was Wright-Kinsey with 11 points on five-of-seven shooting. Latham followed with nine points and eight rebounds and both Martin and graduate guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) added eight points.

Bentley will be back at home Sunday with a 5 pm game against Post University.
