Webb, Amabilino Perez Combine for 44 as Bentley Tops Assumption, 93-87

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) and graduate forward Adria Amabilino (Barcelona, Spain) combined for 44 points on 72 percent shooting as Bentley University improved to 4-1 overall with a 93-87 win over Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

Webb finished with a career-high 25 points as he made 9 of 13 overall, half of his six three-pointers and four of five free throws. Amabilino Perez came off the bench to make 9 of 12 from the field and collect five rebounds.

Down 28-20 at about the midpoint of the first half, Bentley used a 14-3 spurt to turn things around and go up three, 34-31. Webb led the charge with eight points, including a pair from outside the arc.

The Falcons were up 45-41 at the break following a buzzer-beating runner from 35 feet by graduate guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy).

The Bentley advantage hit ten for the first time at 75-65 with 7:44 to play following a 13-6 run.  Webb got it started with both a driving lay-up and a three-ball from the left side.

Assumption answered back with a 13-2 run to go up 80-79 with 4:54 to play, but the Falcons weren't done. Mello-Klein had six and Webb four during a 12-4 spurt that made it a 91-84 game with 57 seconds to play.

After Assumption missed twice from deep in the waning seconds, Webb closed out the scoring with two free throws with 2.5 seconds left.

Also scoring in doubles for Bentley were Mello-Klein and sophomore guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS). Mello-Klein's night included 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Laput provided with 13 points, five rebounds, two helpers and a pair of steals.

Graduate guard Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md.) scored 28 and dished seven assists to lead Assumption, which lost for only the second time in six games.

The Falcons shot 51 percent overall and made 11 of 26 from deep while limiting Assumption to 45 percent overall and ten of 35 triples.

Bentley, 2-1 NE10, wraps up a three-game homestand Saturday at 3 pm with a non-conference game against the University of Bridgeport.
