2019-20 Men's Basketball Highlights

Team

  • Bentley earned a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference championship tournament for the 38th time in the conference's 40-year history.
  • Bentley has an all-time winning percentage of .627 in regular season NE10 games, second best in conference history.
  • Coach Jay Lawson's team achieved the program's 24th winning season in the last 25 years.
  • The Falcons won 14 of their first 16 games and were ranked as high as 14th nationally in Division II.
  • The Falcons have made at least one three-pointer in an NCAA Division II-record 905 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to December 1989.
  • Bentley led Division II in fewest fouls committed, averaging only 12.2 per game.
  • In addition to fewest fouls per game, Bentley led the conference in field goal percentage (.482), field goals (29.9), assists (16.8), rebound margin (+5.3), fewest rebounds allowed (32.7) and fewest offensive rebounds allowed (8.1).
  • Lawson used the same lineup in every game with forwards Chris Hudson and Pete Blust joined by Jordan Mello-Klein, Mason Webb and Brian Wright-Kinsey.
  • For the second straight year, Bentley was 16-2 when shooting better overall than its opponents. They were 10-1 with a field goal percentage of least .500 and made at least 60 percent of their field goal attempts twice (.646 vs. Southern Connecticut St., .513 vs. Assumption).
  • The Falcons were 13-2 when shooting better from three and 5-0 when making 12 or more three-pointers.
  • Bentley overcame a halftime deficit to win twice (Nov. 17 vs. Molloy, Jan. 4 vs. Saint Anselm).
  • The Falcons were 14-6 when attempting more free throws than their opponents.
  • In 15 games, the opponents got to the free throw line nine times or less.
  • As a team, Bentley achieved a 3.221 grade point average during the year.

5       Chris Hudson (Sr, F, 6-5, 205, Hodgdon, Maine, Williston Northampton School)

  • Co-recipient of Bentley's Outstanding Male Senior-Athlete Award and Bentley's nominee for Northeast-10 Man of the Year
  • Only fourth NE10 player in last 20 years to be selected as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Northeast-10.
  • Second-team D2CCA and NABC Division II All-East honoree.
  • Led Bentley in scoring (19.0), rebounds (7.4), blocks (43), steals (43), field goal percentage (.566), field goals (210), field goal attempts (371), free throws (117), free throw attempts (156) and minutes (36.3).
  • Minutes per game average ranked fourth in program history and 43 blocks was the sixth most.
  • Was only player in Division II East Region with at least 40 steals and 40 blocks.
  • Named to the Bevo Francis Award top 100 watch list.
  • Led the Northeast-10 in blocks and was also second in field goal percentage, fourth in free throws, fourth in field goals per game (7.2), tied for fourth in steals (43), fifth in field goals, fifth in free throw attempts, fifth in free throws per game (4.0), fifth in free throw attempts per game (5.4), fifth in minutes (1,052), sixth in points (550) and sixth in scoring (19.0).
  • Was 41st in Division II in field goal percentage, 42nd in minutes per game (36:17), 45th in blocks (43) and 45th in field goals (210).
  • Five double-doubles, including 28 points and 11 rebounds against Molloy Nov. 17.
  • Scored in doubles in 28 of 29 games, including the season's final 22 contests.
  • Scored at least 20 14 times with a high of 30 against Adelphi Feb. 1
  • Played 40 minutes or more six times.
  • Made at least 60 percent of his field goal attempts 12 times with Bentley 9-3 in those games.
  • Named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week Nov. 18 following a 28-point, 11-rebound, five-block, 11-for-16 shooting performance against Molloy.
  • Made ten appearances on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Joined Bentley's 1,000 point club Dec. 5 at Assumption.
  • Other milestones achieved included 100 games (Jan. 25 at American International), 500 rebounds (Nov. 20 at Bridgeport) and 500 field goals (Feb. 8 vs. St. Michael's).
  • Started final 75 games of collegiate career.
  • In 109 career games (80 starts), amassed 1,428 points (21st all-time) and 685 rebounds (20th in program history).
  • Owns career averages of 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds, as well as a career field goal percentage of .538.
  • 84 career blocks is tied for fifth most in Bentley history.

12    Seth Stankiewicz (Sr, G, 6-0, 175, Reading, Pa., The Hill School)

  • Was the Falcons' sixth man, playing 18.4 minutes a game while appearing in all 29 contests off the bench.
  • Averaged 6.7 points, 1.9 assists and 1.3 rebounds with his scoring production sixth best on the team.
  • Shot .428 overall, including 40 of 92 from outside the arc (.435), and made 35 of 41 free throws (.854).
  • Was ninth in the Northeast-10 in three-point accuracy.
  • Put up similar numbers in conference games, averaging 6.2 points and shooting .425 overall, .439 from three and .900 (18/20) free throws.
  • Had a career game on Senior Day Feb. 22 with seven three-pointers in ten attempts and a career-best 23 points in a 105-72 win over Franklin Pierce. Included was his 100th career three and 500th career point.
  • Bentley was 6-1 when he scored in double figures and 5-0 when he buried at least three triples.
  • Finished career with 516 points, 129 assists, 120 rebounds and 109 three-balls in 103 games with averages of 5.0 points, 1.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds.
  • Career three-point percentage of .422 is fifth best in program history.

34    Peter Blust (Jr, F, 6-6, 210, Hinsdale, Ill., Hinsdale Central HS, New Hampton Prep)

  • Returned from missing most of his sophomore year with a foot injury to start all 29 games.
  • Averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 blocks while playing nearly 23 minutes per contest.
  • Was ninth in the Northeast-10 in field goal percentage (.541).
  • Scored in double-figures ten times with Bentley 9-1 in those games. Nine came during the first half of the season.
  • Averaged 13.6 PPG with a .721 field goal percentage during a five-game stretch from Nov. 20-Dec. 4.
  • That included a career-best 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting Dec. 4 at Assumption in a 96-87 victory.
  • Ten rebounds at Franklin Pierce Dec. 7.
  • Claimed at least three offensive rebounds ten times with a high of five Jan. 22 against Saint Rose.
  • Multiple blocked shots eight times, with a high of three Dec. 7 at Franklin Pierce and Feb. 28 vs. New Haven.
  • Came up with three steals and two blocks Feb. 19 vs. Assumption.
  • Has two years of eligibility remaining after being granted a medical red-shirt following his injury-shortened sophomore season.
  • In 49 career games, has 269 points, 191 rebounds and a .547 field goal percentage. Career averages are 16.8 minutes, 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds.

24    Colton Lawrence (Jr, G, 6-3, 195, Myerstown, Pa., ELCO HS, Hill School)

  • 2018-19 Team Most Improved Player who was sidelined throughout the 2019-20 season as a medical red-shirt.
  • As a sophomore, started all 29 games and averaged 15.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 31.1 minutes. 
  • That year, was one of only three NE10 players with at least 65 three-pointers and 190 rebounds.
  • Career averages of 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds with 526 points and 249 rebounds in 52 career games (35 starts).

23    Jordan Mello-Klein (So, G, 6-1, 178, Sharon, Mass., Thayer Academy)

  • Started every game for the second straight year and finished the season with averages of 12.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
  • Became only second player in program history to average at least 12, 5 and 5, following in the footsteps of Billy Holden (1989-90), as well as one of only two East Region players this past season to do so.
  • Shot .467 from the field, a team-best .468 from three-point land and .794 at the foul line.
  • Led the Northeast-10 in three-point accuracy and was also second in assists/game, fourth in steals/game and fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.1).
  • Opened the season with the first triple-double in program history, 13 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists against Wilmington (Del.) on Nov. 8.
  • Scored at least 20 points five times with a high of 28, on 10-of-13 shooting, in a 96-87 win at Assumption Dec. 4.
  • Also had 24 points against Saint Anselm Jan. 4 and in the season-finale against New Haven Feb. 28.
  • 10+ rebounds four times, including a career-high 12 at Felician Dec. 21.
  • Seven steals at Southern New Hampshire Feb.15 was the most by a Falcon since J.P. Koury in 2013.
  • Was 27th in Division II in assists per game and 68th in assist-turnover ratio.
  • Has started 66 consecutive games.
  • Scored his 500th career point Nov. 22 vs. Stonehill and made his 100th three-pointer Feb. 15 at Southern New Hampshire.
  • Was named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll six times, including at least once in every month.
  • Career averages of 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 84 games (82 starts).
  • Career totals included 815 points, 443 rebounds, 341 assists, 100 steals and 111 three-pointers
  • .448 career three-point percentage is second highest in program history.  Is also fifth all-time in minutes per game (32.3).

 10    Dan Reagan (Jr, G, 6-2, 175, Avon, Conn., Avon HS, Gunnery School)

  • Appeared in 12 games, playing a total of 39 minutes with eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
  • All his scoring came during the Bentley Tip-Off Classic with three points vs. Wilmington (Del.) and five against Concordia (N.Y.).
  • Standout in the classroom who will appear on the NABC Honors Court.

 32    Adria Amabilino Perez (So, F, 6-8, 205, Barcelona, Spain, Bilborough College, Hotchkiss School)

  • Saw action in all 29 games off the bench and averaged 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 12.1 minutes.
  • Shot .467 overall, made 10 three-pointers and posted a .606 free throw percentage (20 of 33).
  • Career-high 16 points vs. Assumption Feb. 19, surpassing his 15-point effort achieved at Le Moyne Jan. 28. In both games, was 7-of-11 from the field.
  • From Nov. 23-Dec. 1, scored in doubles in three straight games, averaging 11.7 points on 65 percent shooting.
  • Career-high 11 rebounds Nov. 9 against Concordia (N.Y.)
  • In 41 career games, has averaged 3.7 points and 2.8 rebounds with a .475 field goal percentage. Totals include 153 points and 116 rebounds.
  • Outstanding student who is majoring in economics-finance.

 10    Patrick Geitner, Jr. (So, G, 5-8, 150, Bloomfield, N.Y., Bloomfield HS)

  • First-year player who made career debut and only appearance of the season Nov. 9 vs. Wilmington (Del.).
  • Played three minutes against the Wildcats and made a three-pointer in his only shot attempt.
  • Finance major who has the team's best grade point average.

 31   Andrew DeSantis (So, G, 6-4, 185, Garden City, N.Y., Garden City HS)

  • In first season on the team, appeared in six games, playing a total of 14 minutes.
  • Career-high two rebounds vs. Concordia (N.Y.) Nov. 9

 21   Mason Webb (So, G, 6-4, 190, Oklahoma City, Okla., Bishop McGuiness HS,  New Hampton School)

  • Was second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game while shooting .472 overall, .387 from three and a sparkling .913 at the foul line.
  • His performance at the stripe, 73 of 80, was the best in program history (minimum 2 FTM per game), surpassing Jack Sparks' .908 in 1978-79.
  • Started season by making his first 20 free throws and finished the season with a streak of 24 consecutive makes.
  • His .913 free throw percentage was seventh best nationally in Division II as well as the best in the Northeast-10.
  • Was also eighth in the NE10 in field goal attempts (371), tenth in points (444), tenth in minutes (996) and tied for tenth in field goals (152).
  • Started all 29 games after coming off the bench in every game as a freshman.
  • Opened the season with a career-best 33 points against Wilmington (Del.) on Nov. 8. Made 13 of 20 shots overall and half of his 12 attempts from outside the arc.
  • That was one of six games in which he scored at least 20 points.
  • Buried six of seven three-balls and eight of nine shots overall during a 24-point effort at St. Michael's Jan. 8.
  • Bentley was 6-0 when he made at least four three-pointers.
  • Made at least one three-pointer in 21 consecutive games to finish the season
  • Named to Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll five times, including at least once each month.
  • 500th career point was scored Feb. 8 vs. St. Michael's.
  • Career totals in 58 games include 573 points, 203 rebounds and 89 three-pointers.
  • Career averages are 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds.

 15    Brian Wright Kinsey (So, G, 6-4, 190, Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooks School) 

  • In 29 starts, averaged 9.7 points and 4.1 rebounds while playing about 28 minutes a game.
  • .445 field goal percentage included 55 percent accuracy from inside the arc.
  • Was fourth on the team in three-pointers (39) with a .333 success rate from deep.
  • Shot significantly better in road games (.472) than at home (.417).
  • His buzzer-beating three at Bloomfield Dec. 22 forced OT and propelled the Falcons to an 82-76 road victory.
  • Scored in doubles 15 times with a career-high 21 at Saint Rose Jan. 2 and 18 points against New York Tech Nov. 23.
  • Came within one rebound of his first career double-double Dec. 10 vs. Southern New Hampshire and also set a career-high with three steals against the Penmen.
  • In 52 career games (29 starts), has 322 points and 139 rebounds, along with a .444 field goal percentage.
  • Career norms are 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 18.0 minutes.

22    Kellan Bochenek (Fr, G, 6-4, 190, Kettering, Ohio, Fairmont HS

  • Saw action in 27 games off the bench, averaging 6.1 minutes, 1.2 points and one rebound.
  • Played double-figure minutes a half-dozen times, with a high of 18 Dec. 1 vs. American International.
  • Season-high six points vs. Wilmington (Del.) Nov. 8 in his career debut.
  • Scored five points a day later against Concordia (N.Y.) and again Jan. 22 vs. Saint Rose. Also had a career-high seven rebounds and two assists against the Golden Knights.

30    Isaac Martin (Fr, G, 6-4, 203, Peachtree Corner, Ga., Norcross HS)

  • Was Bentley's most productive freshman, averaging 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 10.0 minutes while appearing in 24 games off the bench.
  • Shot .405 from the field and made 16 of 43 three-pointers (.372).
  • Over the season's final 14 games, put up five points a game and made 12 of 30 from deep (.400).
  • Scored career-high 10 points against Saint Rose and bettered that four days later with 12 points at American International.
  • Playing time increased from 5.5 minutes per game before Jan. 15 to 14.6 after that date.
  • Had three four-rebound performances (Jan. 18 at Pace, Jan. 25 at American International, Feb. 22 vs. Franklin Pierce).

33    Jusouf Rashad (Fr, F, 6-7, 180, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, American School of Dubai, Marianapolis Prep)

  • Appeared in two games, playing a total of four minutes during the Bentley Tip-Off Classic.
  • Had one rebound in each game and an assist Nov. 9 vs. Concordia (N.Y.).

14    Danny Yardemian (Fr, G, 5-9, 165, Belmont, Mass., Belmont HS)

  • Came off the bench nine times, playing a total of 27 minutes and scoring five points.
  • Made his first collegiate field goal Nov. 26 against Stonehill.
  • Also scored two points, both from the foul stripe, Jan. 11 against Southern Connecticut State.
  • Two assists in a career-high six minutes Nov. 9 vs. Concordia (N.Y.).
