Sawyer Tabbed for Maine Basketball Hall of Fame

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University men's basketball standout Chris Sawyer '93 has been selected for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.

His induction was scheduled to be this August but due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been delayed until August 2021.

Sawyer, who came to Bentley from South Portland High School was a three-year starter for the Falcons who amassed 1,187 points, 504 rebounds, 249 assists and 141 steals during his collegiate career. He is one of only two players in program history with career totals that include at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 240 assists and 140 steals.

Sawyer averaged just over 12 points a game during each of his three seasons as a starter with a high of 12.6 during the 1991-92 season. A year later, the Falcon co-captain put up 12.4 a game while helping the Falcons capture the Northeast-10 regular season title and qualify for the NCAA Division II regional tournament.

Sawyer also scored over 1,000 points at South Portland and earned All-Maine honors in 1989. He was an all-tourney and All-Southern Maine Athletic Association choice during his junior and senior years.

Sawyer is the second Falcon to be inducted into the Mane Basketball Hall of Fame, joining Charlie Wootton '78.
