Stonehill Uses 13 3-Pointers to Turn Tables on Bentley, 85-65; Hudson Scores 23 for Falcons

EASTON, Mass. – Stonehill College used sizzling shooting from three, hitting seven in the first ten minutes and finishing 13 of 21, to register an 85-65 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday night at the Merkert Gymnasium.

It was a 51-point swing from the first meeting of the year between the two clubs, won by Bentley back in Waltham on Nov. 26, 92-61.

Bentley, with its third straight loss, dropped to 16-7 overall and fell into a tie for third in the NE10 Northeast Division at 8-6.  Stonehill is alone in first place at 10-4 conference and 14-8 overall.

Stonehill wasted no time taking charge, knocking down four three-pointers in the first five minutes, including three from senior guard Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minn,), to open a quick 14-5 lead.

Later in the first half, a 10-0 Skyhawk run over a stretch of slightly more than three minutes extended a seven-point difference to 17, 37-20 with 5:18 remaining until the break. At that juncture, Stonehill was 14 of 24 overall and a blistering 9 of 13 from outside the three-point line.

Down 49-31 at the break, Bentley never put together much of a run in the second and as a result, never drew any closer than 14.

Stonehill continued to shoot well in the second, connecting at a 53 percent clip, but Bentley cooled off from 54 percent during the first 20 minutes to 41 percent, including only one of nine from deep.

Senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton) had another impressive effort for Bentley, finishing with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He also filled the stat sheet with five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a pair of steals.

Hudson, who has 78 points in his last three games, surpassed 1,300 for his career.

Sophomore guards Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) and Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) also scored in doubles for Bentley, finishing with 14 and 11, respectively.

Moreton, four of six from outside, led Stonehill with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Skyhawks also received three triples apiece from junior guard Owen Close (Eden Prairie, Minn.), who finished with 19 points, and junior forward Owen de Graaf (Beamsville, Ont.).

The Skyhawks also received 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from junior forward Monty Umilevicus (Kaunas, Lithuania).

Overall, Stonehill outshot the Falcons 56-47 percent and sank ten more three-balls, 13-3. Bentley was outscored 17-7 on points off turns and gave up 16 second-chance points/
