No. 14/17 Bentley Visits Pace Saturday, Seeking 8th Win in Last 9 Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – After having its seven-game winning streak halted by the University of New Haven Tuesday, the Bentley University men's basketball team will be attempting to win for the eighth time in nine games Saturday afternoon when the Falcons are in Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace University.

Game time at the Goldstein Athletic Center is 1:30 pm with the contest being webcast over the NE10 Digital Network.

Coach Jay Lawson's team will be taking on a Pace University Setters team that has struggled of late after a 9-0 start. The Setters, 11-6 overall and 2-5 NE10 have dropped four straight, including 67-61 at Assumption College Tuesday, and six of their last eight. The offensive production has dropped from 80.3 over the first nine to 67.4 since Dec. 10.

Bentley, 14-3 overall with rankings of 14th (NABC) and 17th (D2SIDA), will enter the weekend tied with Stonehill for the top spot in the conference's Northeast Division. Both the Falcons and Skyhawks are 6-2 in NE10 play with a one-game lead over both Franklin Pierce and Saint Anselm.

The Falcons, a win away from securing a winning record for the 27th time in Lawson's 29 seasons at the helm, lead the NE10 in scoring margin (+12.5), rebound margin (+7.4), field goal percentage (.497) and assists (17.6). They are also number two in scoring defense at 68.7, with only Pace, at 65.9, better.

Bentley has three players scoring at least 12 a game with the list headed by senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School), who was named to the Bevo Francis Award top 100 watch list earlier this week. The conference leader in blocks and field goal percentage averages 17.8 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuiness HS) follows at 16.2 points per game with a team-best 42 three-pointers. Junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) is the only player in the East Region producing at least 12 points, six assists and six rebounds a game.

Rounding out Lawson's starting unit are junior forward Pete Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) and sophomore guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School). Blust has a .556 field goal percentage and Wright-Kinsey has averaged close to 11 points over the last eight.

Off the bench, Lawson most often calls upon senior guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./The Hill School) and sophomore forward Adria Amabilino Perez (Barcelona, Spain). Stankiewicz scores 6.5 points a game and Amabilino Perez follows at 4.9.

Pace features senior forward Peyton Wejnert, the number two scorer in the NE10 with a 22.3 average. He had 29 in a 40-minute stint against Assumption earlier in the week and has scored at least 30 three times. Wejnert has shot 54 percent from the floor and is the NE10's best at getting to the line with 123 attempts.

Junior guard Brandon Jacobs follows with a 13.5 average and leads the conference in assists with 131. Pace leads the NE10 in steals, averaging 8.9 a game, with senior guard Ray Montilus (41 steals) a key reason.

Bentley is 16-3 in its last 19 games against Pace, but one of those Setter victories came last season, 76-74 in overtime. Wejnert scored 10 points in the extra session, matching his total from regulation, to lift the Setters. Colton Lawrence, a medical red-shirt this season, led the Falcons with 26 points and Hudson put up a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Bentley, in a stretch of playing four of five on the road, will play the only home game during that span on Wednesday with Saint Rose providing the opposition.
