Hudson & Webb Combine for 50, but Bentley Falls at Franklin Pierce, 94-90

RINDGE, N.H. – Senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School) and sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuiness HS) combined for 50 points but the Bentley University Falcons fell to Franklin Pierce University, 94-90. In Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday at the FPU Field House.

Senior guard Doyan Fadujutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) powered Franklin Pierce with 33 points, including 22 in the second half. He had 15 in the final 5:10 as the Ravens pulled out the win with a 26-19 closing run.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Falcons, who fell to 7-2 overall and 2-1 conference. Franklin Pierce improved 4-3 overall and 2-2 NE10 on the strength of 60 percent shooting in the second half.

The biggest lead of the afternoon came later in the first half when Franklin Pierce went on a 16-3 run to go up nine, 41-32, after the Falcons had led by four. The run included four points from senior forward Jameson Pierrelus (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and three-pointers from both freshman forward Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.). FPU went on to take a 44-36 lead into the half.

Bentley started the second half strong, a 12-4 spurt evening the contest at 48 apiece. Webb was instrumental over that span with eight points.

 Following seven more ties, Bentley scored six in a row to grab a 71-68 lead with six minutes to play. All came at the basket with the lay-ups made by junior forward Pete Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS), Hudson and junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon, Mass./Thayer Academy).

Franklin Pierce responded by scoring ten in a row, including a pair of threes from Fadujutimi, and never gave up the lead the rest of the way.

Bentley made it a three-point game five times in the final 3:05, but could never get closer. The final time came on a Mello-Klein step-back three with 26.8 seconds left, but the Ravens locked up the win with four late free throws.

Hudson powered Bentley with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting and also collected eight rebounds. Webb followed with 23 points and five rebounds.

Bentley also received 14 points from Mello-Klein and eight points and ten rebounds from Blust.

Fadujuitimi achieved his 33 on 10 of 16 from the field, six of nine from deep and seven of ten free throws,

The Ravens finished with a .542 field goal percentage, along with ten three-pointers and 20 free throws against a Bentley team that led Division II in fewest fouls committed. The Falcons shot .478 overall but were only 7 of 24 from three.

Bentley's final home game before the new year will be Tuesday at 7 pm against Southern New Hampshire.
