Richmond Selected for CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate), the third leading scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference, has been named to the 2017-18 NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 Men's Basketball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

District 1 includes student-athletes competing in the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

By virtue of earning All-District honors, Richmond will advance to the national ballot for the selection of the CoSIDA Academic All-America team.

Richmond has had a standout season for the 15-11 Falcons, who will play at The College of Saint Rose Sunday afternoon in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals. His 23.3 scoring average is on pace to break the Bentley single-season record and he's also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game. Richmond is only the third player in program history to post a pair of 600-point seasons.

After averaging 21.2 points in November and 19.7 in December, Richmond has taken it to another level since the first of the year. He scored 25.4 points a game in January and lifted that to 26.3 so far this month.

Richmond, who set a Bentley single game scoring record with 45 points a year ago, closed out the regular season with 39 at Franklin Pierce Tuesday. That was his third 30-point effort and 20th 20-point game of the season.

Richmond has also succeeded in the classroom, amassing a 3.35 grade point average while majoring in finance.

This is the third time in four years that Bentley has been represented on the Academic All-District team with Richmond following Keegan Hyland (2015, 2016) and Tyler McFarland (2016). Both Hyland and McFarland went on to earn Academic All-America honors.

In addition to Richmond, the Academic All-District 1 team included Michael Coffey (Adelphi), Levi Holmes III (St. Michael's), Julian Lipinski (Saint Rose) and Russell Sangster (Le Moyne).
