McFarland Named NE-10 Spalding Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – After leading the Falcons to a pair of conference wins, Bentley University senior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Spalding Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the first time this season and the fourth time in his career that he's received the honor.

McFarland put up back-to-back 26-point efforts as Bentley defeated both Saint Anselm College (86-78) and Southern New Hampshire (93-77) to remain undefeated in NE-10 play. He shot 59 percent overall, made half of his 12 three-point attempts, was perfect on six trips to the line and also averaged 5.5 rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Against Saint Anselm, he broke the game open with 16 points in the first 6:30 of the second half.

Through the first eight games, McFarland has been scoring at a rate unparalleled in Bentley history, averaging 24.9 points while playing nearly 36 minutes a game. He leads the Northeast-10 and ranks eighth nationally in that category, and is also in the top four in the conference in minutes, blocks and free throw percentage.

McFarland has scored 25 or more in six of the last seven games, has made at least 55 percent of his shots in six of eight contests, and has drilled 15 three-pointers in the last five. His effective field goal percentage is a lofty .642 and the 87 percent foul shooter has a true shooting percentage of .674.

McFarland, after beginning the season 18th on Bentley's career scoring list, has vaulted to ninth with 1,639 points and enters this week's action needing 33 to surpass Derek Dixon '87, Sean Cooke '06, Al Grenfell '75 and Todd Orlando '84 for a spot in the top five. The 6-2 Falcons host Franklin Pierce Wednesday and play at St. Michael's Saturday.
