Bentley Returns Home to Host 6-0 Saint Anselm Wednesday Night

WALTHAM, Mass. – After posting a 2-2 record during a challenging four-game road trip, the Bentley University men's basketball team will play its first home game in 18 days Wednesday night with undefeated Saint Anselm College providing the opposition.

Game time at the Dana Center is set for 7 pm (a change from the originally announced 7:30) and a free webcast will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

The two Falcon wins on the road were both against Northeast-10 opponents, 77-75 at Merrimack on a late basket by senior guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) and 103-86 at Assumption in a game that saw the Falcons shoot 67 percent overall with 15 three-pointers.

Bentley returns home at 4-2 overall after putting up a season-low point total and shooting percentage (.375) in Saturday's 77-61 loss in Holy Family's home opener.

Three of Saint Anselm's six wins have been against conference opponents with the Hawks coming off a non-conference win over Post University on Sunday, 89-73. The Hawks have a +19.5 scoring margin and like the Falcons, have taken more free throws than their opponents have attempted.

Both clubs have generally shot well this season with Bentley's .524 ninth best in Division II and Saint Anselm's .505 ranking 32nd nationally. The Hawks have been deadly from three, with their .458 fifth best in Division II, and the Falcons have made 63 percent of their attempts from inside the arc in addition to a 40 percent success rate from downtown.

The early weeks of the 2015 season have seen three Northeast-10 players average at least 24 points, a trio that includes Bentley senior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS). The ninth all-time leading scorer in program history enters December with averages of 24.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks with a .560 field goal percentage.

Grad student Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) had a productive string of road games, averaging 19.5 points, eight rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 51 percent overall and 67 percent inside the three-point line. For the season, his scoring norm stands at 15.5.

Furness , the NE-10 leader in assist-turnover ratio, and junior guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.))  are the other double-figure scorers for coach Jay Lawson's club. Furness, the team leader in threes (17), is at 13.1 and Duke, who has shot 59 percent overall and made 12 of 22 three-pointers, follows at 10.2.

Senior forward Mike McCahey, back from a knee that sidelined him the second half of last season, has been lighting it up from downtown for Saint Anselm. He's shooting a ridiculous 71 percent from three (20-28), second best nationally in Division II, while putting up a team-best 21.8 ppg.

Coach Keith Dickson's club has four other double figure scorers, including Stony Brook transfer Chris Braley who was nearly putting up a double-double (12.7 ppg, 9.7 rpg) before missing his team's last three games.

Six-foot-six junior Harrison Taggart, senior guard Victor Joshua and freshman guard Tim Duers (the NE-10 Rookie of the Week for the second straight time) are all at 13 ppg or better for a Hawk team that has limited its opponents to .387 overall, .288 from three and .630 from the line.

Wednesday's game will be the first of three in a row for the Falcons at the Dana Center against teams from the Granite State. Bentley will host Southern New Hampshire Saturday afternoon and Franklin Pierce next Wednesday.
