Hyland Named Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award Winner for Men’s Basketball

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS)  has been selected as the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award recipient for men's basketball, the conference announced today.

A conference committee of Faculty Athletic Representatives and other athletic administrators select the premier scholar-athlete in each sport with Hyland becoming the ninth Falcon in the last three years to receive a Sport Excellence award.

Hyland, previously honored as a first-team Capital One Division II Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), also headlined the 2015 Academic All-Northeast-10 men's basketball team as he earned that accolade for the second straight year.

Hyland, a six-foot-four senior who has one more year of eligibility remaining, had an impressive season for the Falcons and was even better in the classroom. He made the President's List for the fifth consecutive semester and now has a 3.93 grade point average as a finance major.

Hyland, a third-team All-Northeast-10 honoree, started every game for the 15-12 Falcons and averaged 19.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. That's a combination no Bentley player has ever achieved and hasn't been accomplished by an NE-10 player in more than a decade.

The fifth-leading scorer in the conference had nine 20-point games, seven or more rebounds 16 times and four double-doubles.

In 47 career games, Hyland has averaged 16.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting nearly 50 percent overall.

Hyland was joined on the all-academic team by Ryen Vilmont (Franklin Pierce), Chris Dorgler (Saint Rose), Tylon Smith (Southern Connecticut), Luke Houston (Southern Connecticut) and Philip Tripodakis (Southern New Hampshire).
