McFarland Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week for the Third Time

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following back-to-back 18-point games, Bentley University freshman Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. He was previously recognized Nov. 26 and Dec. 10.

McFarland, who averaged 8.5 rebounds and two assists in addition to 18 points during a 1-1 week, shot 50 percent overall and drained five of six three-pointers during the two games.

The six-foot-five forward recorded his seventh double-double of the season, 18 points and ten rebounds, in a four-point loss to St. Michael's and came back with 18 points and seven rebounds Saturday when the Falcons cruised past Southern New Hampshire, 69-46. In both games, four of his rebounds came at the offensive end.

In five February games thus far, McFarland has averaged 17.8 points, boosting his season norm to 14.6, second on the team. He is tied for fifth in the NE-10 in rebounds (8.0), shoots over 80 percent from the line and also averages eight 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks.

McFarland has scored at least 18 in four of the last five games, including a career-best 26 Feb. 10 at Saint Anselm, after doing so three times in the first 18.

Junior guard Jasper Grassa (Lynn/Lynn Classical HS) was also recognized by the conference, with selection to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll.

He averaged 23 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 56 percent overall, a sparkling 63 percent from three-point land (12-19) and 100 percent at the foul line (4-4). He buried six three-balls in both games and finished with 26 points (6-10 3's) against St. Michael's and 20 (6-9 3's) in the win over Southern New Hampshire.

Bentley, 8-15, will take on conference co-leader Franklin Pierce Wednesday night up in Rindge, N.H.
