WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore guard Jasper Grassa (Lynn/Lynn Classical HS) scored 29 points, including 18 in the first half, and freshman forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) added 21 off the bench as the Bentley University men's basketball team tuned up for the regular season with a 101-74 exhibition win over Bishop's University (Canada) Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

The duo combined for 13 of Bentley's 19 three-pointers, with Grassa draining eight of 11 from outside the arc and Shaw burying five of seven. Overall, Grassa was 10 of 15 from the floor with a stat line that also included seven assists, five rebounds and two steals. Shaw finished eight of 12 overall in 19 minutes of action.

The Falcons also received double-digit scoring efforts from juniors Dan O'Keefe (Lexington/ Lexington HS) and Greg Jacques (Brockton/St. Sebastian's HS), with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman forward Jate Cheshul (Galloway, N.J./Holy Spirit HS) added eight points to the Falcon offensive attack.

Bishop's, from Quebec, also had four players score in doubles with the list headed by forward Jeremy Leonard-Smith (Ottawa, Ont.). He scored 14 points, and the Gaiters received a double-double (11 points, 10 boards) from guard Onnex Blackwood (Scarborough, Ont.).

Bentley, which scored the game's first five points and never relinquished the lead, saw its first-half advantage peak at 21, 49-28, with about three minutes left until intermission. The Gaiters closed to within ten early in the second half, but a 20-6 surge over a span of 7:15 put the contest out of reach, 95-66 with 3:45 left.

Both teams shot well overall (Bentley 50 percent, Bishop's 47.5), but the Gaiters couldn't match the Falcons' hot hand from downtown. While the Falcons buried half of their 38 three-point attempts, Bishop's was just six of 24 from downtown.

Bentley also took better care of the ball, giving it up only 13 times while turning Bishop's 22 turns into 32 points.

Bentley opens its season next Friday and Saturday at home with games against Felician College and Bloomfield College in the annual Tip-Off Classic.  Both games are slated for 8 pm.
