Falcons Set to Take on Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Winners of four straight to close the regular season, Bentley will ride that momentum into the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship on Tuesday night at home against Adelphi.

 

Setting the stage

Bentley is the No. 3 seed after they went 10-3 in the regular season. A dramatic penalty shootout win over Pace on Friday secured the home playoff game. After 80 minutes of scoreless action between the two teams they went to the shootout. Pace had the advantage after goals in the 1st and 4th rounds, but Abigail Hewes kept Bentley alive with a goal in the 4th round.

Mia Trottie made a save in the 5th round and Madison Halas scored for the Falcons to send it to round six. Trottie denied Francesca Fava and Hannah Blomquist followed with a goal to give Bentley the win.

 

Rematch

It will have bene just nine days between the last meeting between the Falcons and Panthers. They met on Oct. 21 in Garden City, NY and Bentley won 3-0. Libby Harrison scored four minutes into the second quarter for a 1-0 lead. McKenzie Carey scored in the third quarter and Emily Crowell in the fourth.

This will be the third time Bentley and Adelphi have met in the NE10 playoffs. They played in the 2013 and 2014 playoffs. It will be the fourth postseason meeting overall. They also played in the 1981 NCAA Tournament.

 

A look at the stats

Mia Trottie ended the regular season leading Division II in save percentage at .833. She's second in goals against average at 0.72.

Bentley's nine shutouts are tied for the second most in the Division II.

 

NE10 Bracket

The winner between Bentley and Adelphi will face the winner of No. 2 Saint Anselm and No. 7 Mercy in the semifinals on Friday. On the other side of the bracket, the No. 1 seed Assumption hosts No. 8 Franklin Pierce and No. 4 Pace hosts No. 5 Southern New Hampshire.
