Falcons Beat Pace 1-0 in Penalty Shots to Secure Home Playoff Game

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley defeated Pace 1-0 on penalty shots to clinch a home playoff game next Tuesday. Hannah Blomquist scored in the sixth round to secure the win for the Falcons.

Bentley rallied from 2-0 down in the fourth round of penalty shots to knock off the Setters.

Pace shot first and took a 1-0 lead in the first round after Francesa Fava scored. Bentley's next three shooters were denied, and the visitors took a 2-0 lead in the fourth round on a goal by Noelle Meji.

Abigail Hewes was next up for the Falcons and she kept them in it with a goal to make it 2-1 after four rounds.

Pace's Anne Kopec then had a chance to win it in the fifth round, but Bentley goalie Mia Trottie first charged out to poke the ball away then denied Kopec's second chance shot.

Up next for Bentley was Madison Halas who needed to score to extend it. Halas delivered with a deke move to get around Pace goalie Celeste Pagliaroli and scored with a backhander to make it 2-2.

Tied after five rounds, Bentley went first as it moved to a best of one. Blomquist maneuvered around Pagliaroli as she moved in on the cage and swept in a shot to the far post to give Bentley the lead.

Pace's Fava then stepped up to face Trottie to try to keep the Setters alive. Trottie though didn't bite on a fake and denied Fava on two shots to give the Falcons the dramatic win.

The 60 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of 7-on-7 overtime didn't yield any goals to send the game to penalty strokes tied 0-0. Both Trottie and Pagliaroli had five saves.

Bentley improved to 12-6 overall and 10-3 NE10. They will be the No. 3 seed in the NE10 Championship and will host a first round game on Tuesday.
