Coco, Carey Score to Lift Falcons Past Southern Conn St. 2-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Goals by Lida Coco and McKenzie Carey, plus two assists from Hannah Blomquist, lifted field hockey past Southern Connecticut State 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Coco's third goal of the season 4:55 into the game quickly gave Bentley a 1-0 lead.

The goal was started with a penalty corner that was taken by Madison Halas. Blomquist received the ball at the top of the circle and slid a pass over to Coco. Coco took one touch and fired a shot through the Owls defense and under the pads of goalie Rachel Miller to make it 1-0.

That goal proved to be more than enough as the Falcons defense suffocated Southern Conn all game and did not allow a single shot.

Bentley put the game away with 2:45 remaining in the 4th quarter when Blomquist set up Carey for the second goal. Blomquist dribbled into the circle and fed a pass to Carey, who fought off an Owls defender to quickly fire a shot past Miller for the goal.

It's the six shutout of the season for the Falcons, who improved to 9-6 overall and 7-3 in the NE10. Their next game is on Saturday at Adelphi.
