Madison Halas Scores Twice as Bentley Tops Assumption 3-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student Madison Halas scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 4th quarter, as Bentley defeated Assumption 3-2 on Thursday night in a non-conference game.

The win was the 150th career win at Bentley for head coach Jess Spencer.

Halas' second goal of the game 1:27 into the 4th quarter proved to be the game winner. She gained possession on the right wing, drove in on goal and shot from a tough angle over the diving Assumption goalie Paige Gillette to score.

Falcons goalie Mia Trottie made six saves to earn the win.

After a scoreless first half, Bentley scored less than three minutes apart in the third quarter to take a 2-0 lead.

The first goal started with a penalty corner taken by Britney Pearson. Off the corner Halas had a shot that was blocked but Gracie Moore got a touch on the rebound and played it over to Abigail Hewes. A quick shot by Hewes got past Gillette to give Bentely the lead with 7:26 left in the 3rd quarter.

Just under three minutes later Halas' first goal of the night made it 2-0. This one was off a penalty corner as well, taken by Katie Thies who passed it directly to Halas. Halas took a couple of touches and got off a shot from distance that took a deflection and went in over Gillette for the goal.

Assumption responded with two quick goals of their own. Mia Salah first goal with 1:52 left in the 3rd quarter and with 36 seconds left in the quarter Marta Brzoska tied the game 2-2.

But just 1:27 into the final quarter Halas' second of the night gave Bentley the lead back for good.

The Falcons improved to 2-3 on the season with the win. Their next game is Sunday at home against St. Thomas Aquinas at 11:00 AM for the first NE10 game of the season.
