Field Hockey Opens 2023 Season at Home on Sunday and Monday

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley field hockey is set to open the 2023 season this weekend with a pair of homes against schools from the PSAC.

The Falcons will host No. 5 ranked Millersville on Sunday and No. 3 ranked West Chester on Monday.

"We want to challenge ourselves against the best opponents in our region," head coach Jessica Spencer commented. "Our 2023 schedule starts with five opponents that are annually ranked in the top 10 in Division II. Please join us Labor Day weekend as we defend the nest against Millersville University on Sunday and West Chester University on Monday!"

Spencer, now in her 16th season coaching her alma mater, has 20 players return from last season's squad that went 9-4 in the NE10 last season and finished in a tie for 3rd place. They went 11-8 overall.

Five of the top six goal scorers return, led by NFHCA second team All-America Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury) and senior Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero North), who both notched seven goals.

Eight of the top ten point scorers return as well, with second team All-Conference midfielder Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS), a grad student, a part of that group.

Defensively, Spencer has starters Emily Crowell (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and Annie O'Brien (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) return. Crowell was named third team All-Conference last season.

Junior goalies Erin McGuinness (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett) and Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace) both return after splitting time last season.

In all, seven players who started at least 10 games last season return. Crowell, Halas, Hewes and Thies started all 19 in 2022.
