New Haven Upsets Bentley in 2 OT in NE10 Quarters

WALTHAM, Mass. – Ten days ago, the Bentley University and University of New Haven field hockey teams played 80 scoreless minutes before the Bentley Falcons walked off with a 1-0 shootout victory.

The two teams met again tonight at Bentley, this time in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championships, and this time it was six-seeded New Haven who prevailed over the third-seeded Falcons, 1-0 in double-overtime

Freshman forward Erin Smith (Warrington, Pa.) scored from in close, after a pass from grad student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn.), with 4:57 remaining in the second extra session.

New Haven (9-10) will advance to Friday's semifinals while Bentley (11-8) will have to wait to see if its name is called when the field for the NCAA Division II Championships is announced Monday afternoon.

Bentley had the shot advantage in regulation, 8-2, but couldn't get the ball past New Haven netminder Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.).

The Chargers controlled play in the second OT with the only four shots and the only penalty corner.

Sophomore Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace HS) made four saves for Bentley, matching the number made by Integlia.
