Bentley Controls Play but Drops 2-1 Contest at SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite a 23-9 shot advantage and taking 18 of the game's 21 penalty corners, the Bentley University Falcons fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday night at Larkin Field.

The Falcons' dominance in terms of controlling the ball was especially prevalent in the fourth when there were 11 shots and 10 corners, all by Bentley. SNHU freshman goalie Emma Peeters (The Netherlands) was credited with a dozen saves, including five in the final stanza.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead with about two minutes left in the opening quarter. Senior Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) put a penalty corner in play, junior Abigail Hewes (Denmark, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) took a shot and Szatkowski corralled the rebound and scored.

The Penmen netted the equalizer two minutes into the second and the game-winner was scored by sophomore Annemartine Christie (The Netherlands) with 3:26 remaining in the third.

Bentley head coach Jessica Spencer singled out several of her players for their performance, including senior back Ana Carter (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory HS), who had two defensive saves. She also mentioned that Szatkowski, Hewes, sophomore goalie Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace HS) and senior Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS) were outstanding in the difficult loss.

Trottie was credited with two saves in the contest.

Bentley, which had beaten the Penmen ten days ago by an identical score, dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-1 NE10 while SNHU improved to 2-3 with the win in its conference opener.

Next up for the Falcons is a Saturday morning game at Molloy College (11 am).
