Simione, Clark Help No. 9 Bentley Win 8th Straight, 3-0 at St. Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Graduate student Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) had both a goal and a defensive save, and goalie Madison Clark (Natick, Mass./Natick HS) made six saves, as Bentley University won its eighth straight game, 3-0 over St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey at Duffy Field.

Bentley, ranked ninth in the NFHCA Division II coaches poll and third in the NCAA Division II East Region, improved to 13-4 overall and 11-2 NE10. St. Michael's, 4-13 overall, dropped to 3-10 in conference play.

Freshman Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) tallied what proved to be the game-winner with 2:46 left in the opening period. After junior Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham, Mass./ Notre Dame Academy) brough the ball into the circle and Coco finished with a backhand. The goal was her fifth.

Simione made it 2-0 with 5:33 left in the first half on a nicely executed penalty corner. After the ball was inserted by senior Christine Murray (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS), Simione took control and drove it into the cage from just inside the circle. The goal was also her fifth of the season.

Bevilacqua completed the scoring with about seven minutes remaining, off an entry pass from freshman Hannah Blomquist (Westwood, Mass./Westwood HS). It was her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Clark earned the shutout, her third of the season, and lowered her goals against average to 0.87. She has started the team's last ten games and the Falcons have won nine of those.

St. Michael's had the edge in the team stats, 14-12 in shots and 11-8 in penalty corners.

Bentley will wrap up the regular season Friday night with a Senior Day game against American International.
