No. 10 Bentley Earns Win No. 10, 2-0 over Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS) and junior Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Acad.) each scored for Bentley University as Division II's tenth-ranked field hockey team earned its tenth win of the season, 2-0 over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday afternoon on the Bentley Turf Field.

The win was the fifth straight and ninth in the last 11 games for Bentley, which was third in the NCAA Division II East Region rankings that were released earlier in the day. The Falcons improved to 10-4 overall and 8-2 NE10 after outshooting the visitors 19-3.

It was a scoreless game until Thies scored her team-leading seventh with 4:53 left in the second quarter. She controlled a pass from senior Kaitlyn McGuigan (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East HS) in the middle of the circle and sent it into the cage.

Bevilacqua matched Thies' season goal total with 7:35 left and gave the Falcons some insurance at the same time. Freshman Hannah Blomquist (Westwood/Westwood HS) brought the ball into the circle and Bevilacqua scored from roughly the same distance as Thies, only at the other end of the field.

For the second time in three games, junior Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS) recorded the shutout without having to make a save. It was her seventh straight start in goal for the Falcons with Bentley 6-1 in those games.

For Franklin Pierce (3-12, 1-10 NE10), freshman Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made four saves and junior MacKenzie Potvin (Goffstown, N.H.), who played the second half, had six.

Bentley will be in action twice this weekend, playing at New Haven Saturday afternoon before returning home for a make-up game against Molloy College Sunday at 2:30 pm.
